It was the year 2003 in Santander bay when the gallery owner and collector Ana Escárzaga transformed a modern space dating from the previous century, adapted by Richard Neutra, into her new home. Together with the architect, Estéban Aparício, she designed the details of this new house, and her interest in vintage furniture grew. Ana started studying and buying original 20th Century pieces, which inevitably drew her into the world of collecting. Brazilian Tropicalism provided the greatest inspiration: “the artisanal work involved in the pieces created by major Brazilian designers was what most caught my attention. I was the first reseller to introduce the Denuncia pieces by Zanine Caldas in Europe. There are European designers that I like, but my speciality is Brazilian design. I like to establish a dialogue between the pieces from very different origins, styles and materials”, Ana tells us. With almost twenty years of experience in the art of collecting, Escárgaza took part in the last edition of the Eye of the Collector fair in London, as the only representative of vintage design.
