Matriarca

This is where Matriarca was born, a rustic soul space designed for those who consider wine and gastronomy an art, a ritual and a shared pleasure. Created by the renowned Symington family, who have been producing Port wine for five generations, the restaurant pays tribute to Beatriz Leitão Carvalhosa Atkinson, who with her elegance and Portuguese-British spirit hosted the first gatherings that would mark the Symington family's history in Portugal. Today, her spirit lives on in every detail of these premises.
Spread over three floors of a stately building in Porto, the space was designed by the London studio Thurstan, inviting guests to explore its different facets: on the ground floor, the Wine Bar invites us to toast with Symington wines and Portuguese snacks, while the Cellar Shop offers tastings and a unique selection of still and Port wines. On the upper floor, The Dining Room, restaurant overseen by the chef Pedro Lencastre Monteiro, offers sophisticated cuisine that blends Portuguese and British flavours in innovative yet comforting dishes. The menu is seasonal, with an offering that fuses the family's dual nationality, felt in every corner.
