Where a former gas station once operated, there is now a multi-family building, with 19 apartments, totally designed to improve the quality of life of those who live there.
The facade, in perforated aluminum, creates an ever-changing screen that glows in the sun and glows at night, while providing shade to cool the building, reducing noise, increasing privacy and offering residents stunning views, excellent natural light and great ventilation. The resulting play of light gives an unexpected visual depth, enhancing the structure's geometric texture. Its unique architectural form and integrated function create a high-performance building that is an expression of the people who live in it and the environmental and cultural context in which it was built.
The building's form is also shaped to create a light-filled courtyard on the second level, providing residents with a safe and welcoming environment while connecting directly to the street below. Large glazed areas maximize natural light and optimize building performance. Inside, formaldehyde-free MDF cabinetry, no-VOC paints, natural linoleum and LED lighting were used to minimize material pollution. These details set this project apart from similar ones and benefit not only each individual resident, but the wider community as well.
