After the development of The Spheres, the inspiring centerpiece of Amazon campus in Seattle, Willmott’s Ghost is now getting its time in the spotlight. The modern Italian eatery is located within glass-enclosed domes containing workspaces and cloud forest conservatories with thousands of flora from around the world, now offering Roman-style pizzas and Italian aperitivo cocktails.

Designed by Heliotrope Architects, the restaurant translates the values of traditional Italian cuisine into a contemporary language, which explains the preference for timeless materials such as marble, tile, and brass. The architecture, influenced by the curves of the main building, results in curved leather banquettes or booths hugging the glass perimeter, while the atmosphere is mainly marked by the soft pastel tones of the Italian flag such as white marble, pink tile, and mint greens. White oak chairs, tabletops and bar stools with brass accents and hardware enable the space to straddle both realms of warmth and sophistication. Also, in the bathroom, one can find original artwork from Portland-based artist Ellen Lesperance and pink Moroccan tiles with custom colour by Ann Sacks.

“Navigating such a unique space was no easy feet”, the team explains, “since the design and construction were complicated by the curved nature of the building”. Delight yourself with chef Renee Erickson’s suggestions - such as pizzas, seasonal salads, fried bites or fire-roasted dishes - and don’t forget to try the delicious tiramisu.
