Interior Design: ACDO
Design, art, and nature - the starting point for a serene refuge, carefully thought out by the ACDO studio in collaboration with the architectural firm Vandenberg & Wildeboer Architects.
Nestled on a small peninsula in eastern Ontario, Canada, Saint Lawrence Lodge is a conceptual retreat where art blends with the surrounding nature. "Embracing its distinct lakefront setting, the design philosophy adopts an inside-out approach, seamlessly weaving together spaces for leisure and connectivity," describe Abe Chan and Sam Khouvongsavanh, co-founders of design studio ACDO. "Every detail is curated to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere."
Designed as a holiday home, the property conveys luxury and elegance in a natural and comfortable atmosphere. "We looked at Ontario's culture of cottaging and the desire to re-engage with nature throughout the seasons," say the designers. "This house is an elevated approach to this experience, where all materials used are natural, honest, and organic."
For this project, the colour palette was dictated by a few key materials: concrete, soapstone, and sandblasted oak. Colour was introduced by the ACDO design team through furniture and pieces of art, helping to personify the different seasons in each room.
Surrounded by abundant nature, the property's interior is rich in raw and natural materials from the region. Emphasising the different textures and patterns, each space tells a story, providing a world of experiences throughout the house.
The fusion of a tranquil refuge with modern design results in a contemporary villa where every detail enhances the surrounding landscape.
