In a traditional Brooklyn neighbourhood, the latest project signed by the Lucy Harris studio takes on a new life. Featuring a young and eclectic design, this family home is a peaceful refuge in the city's heart that never sleeps.
Brooklyn Townhouse stands out in a neighbourhood of semi-detached houses. Designer Lucy Harris embraced this project from the beginning with care and detail - she used a creative approach to build an "impossible bouquet", combining colours, materials and inspiration in tranquil, eclectic spaces designed to welcome and enjoy quality family time.

The owners - a young couple - wanted a beautiful and practical space for their growing family. "Their first child was born during the project, so the client needed the home to be both alluring and baby-ready," explains Lucy.

The design team aimed to create an environment that conveyed calm, tranquillity, interest, and youthfulness for this project. "This was achieved by using a mostly serene palette with touches of vibrancy," says the designer. In terms of decoration, the house features vintage pieces and items from small artisans, which give it a unique character. The couple's love of travelling inspired the use of articles from different eras and origins.

Nature played a starring role in this project. Bringing the outdoors indoors, the team opted for a palette of neutral tones and some bold accents of greens, deep blues, earthy oranges, and yellows. The owners' abundant collection of plants helped transform the interiors into an extension of the house's rich, lush gardens. Natural materials - such as leather, wool, cork, rattan and ceramics - made it possible to create a deeper connection between each room and the outdoors.

"Designing a home for a young couple with a new baby, who loves to cook and entertain, means creating open environments with soft edges to gather," explains Lucy Harris.

Ultimately, all the elements come together in a perfect combination of modern eclecticism: in the dining room, a built-in bench is covered with Brecon fabric in a moss colour. Rugs add colour, patterns and soft textures throughout the rooms, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Sculptural objects and pieces of art with unique meanings punctuate the spaces. The skylight over the staircase on the top floor and the sliding glass doors on the lower floors make the house light and airy.

This project was unique to Lucy. The result: a modern, elegant house adapted to a growing family. "The first time visiting the home after its completion, the home was full of life," Lucy Harris describes. "There was children's artwork taped on the doors, music playing, and the back doors were wide open to let in the summer breeze."
