Chloé Mason Gray has designed a functional, comfortable, masculine and dynamic space with a sense of luxury in colours and materials.
Nestled amongst a canopy of trees on the historic street of Amsterdam in Mexico City's Condesa neighbourhood, this two-story was restored by studio Chloé Mason Gray, who found the perfect marriage between historic Mexican design and contemporary pieces by new artists from Mexico.

The colour palette and the selected materials were fundamental to the atmosphere lived in the house. Chloé used materials such as indigo-dyed concrete, quartzite, leather, ceramic and walls with various plaster finishes that envelop the home in textured elegance.
Dark greens, medium and deep blues, and some shades of grey and pinkish-browns are part of the colours of this project. The house is on the street with many trees, whose shade does not allow the entry of much natural light into the rooms. Working with the lack of light is a challenge that Chloé likes to embrace, improving the environment through design. The wooden furniture in the house is either matte black painted oak or red cedar wood. " I think red cedar pairs beautifully with the green tones in the house," says Gray. " In Mexican spaces you tend to see a lot of either very pale wood, tzalam, or walnut, and I liked the idea of using a medium red-toned wood instead", she reinforces. The interior designer found an excellent quartzite slab for the dining table, mixing greens, browns and blues. In addition to perfectly matching the house's colours, quartzite is an extra durable material.

Mexican art and design, both historical and contemporary, were the biggest inspiration for this project. The aim was to create a design that respects the rich history of art, architecture and design in Mexico and that feels unique but at the same time modern and timeless.
