Located by the beach in Puerto Escondido, Casa OHANA is the latest project from Vertebral Architecture Studio.
A haven camouflaged in nature. This was the starting point for developing a dream villa on one of Puerto Escondido's paradisiacal beaches. Designed by the Mexican studio Vertebral, Casa OHANA represents an oasis of tranquillity and freshness.
With more than 800 square metres, the property offers a harmonious experience close to nature. Immersed in a small forest of Neem trees and overlooking the sea, the house captures the essence of coastal life that the client wanted.
Made up of eight independent volumes, divided between private and social areas, the project adopts the earthy tones of the surrounding environment and embraces the local vegetation. The Vertebral Studio designed every corner of the house to blend in with its natural surroundings. Thus, the architects chose neutral materials, such as tropical wood and simple concrete, for the house's structure. Through this selection of materials, the space invites a pleasant and harmonious experience with the forest, the beach and the sea.
On a large, elevated platform, the property's social area offers a glimpse of the ocean as if the house were a continuation of the beach. To protect this area, the architecture studio designed a floating ceiling that offers protection from the rain and sun and improves cross-ventilation so necessary in tropical climates.
Contrary to this social area, entirely exposed to the natural surroundings, the private areas were conceived as almost closed volumes. Overlooking the beach or an interior garden, the bedrooms feature neutral-colourist decor.
The richness of Casa OHANA lies in the simplicity of the harmony between the spaces and nature. Every detail has been thought out to ensure that each room is a haven of calm and privacy.
