High in the Hollywood Hills, surrounded by century-old olive trees and sweeping canyon views, a Spanish Revival home from 1926 has been given a new life by Jordana Maisie Design Studio.
The Australian-born, Los Angeles–based architect, known for her cinematic sensibility and sculptural approach to light, has reimagined this historic house as a contemporary refuge where heritage and modernity coexist in harmony.
The project came to life through Jordana’s long-standing collaboration with Natasha Shick and Tull Price, a fashion-world couple who, after two decades in New York, sought a home that could embody authenticity while embracing a new chapter on the West Coast. They were captivated by the property’s original charm - dark hardwood floors, Moroccan tiles, intimate courtyards - yet wanted a space that felt open, minimal and alive. Jordana’s vision was inspired by masters such as Luis Barragán, introducing a layered choreography of terraces and framed perspectives, blurring the thresholds between inside and out.
At the heart of the transformation lies the exterior: cascading gardens and a multi-level pool where white stucco walls and pigmented concrete recall both Mediterranean tradition and the evocative spirit of Slim Aarons’ post-war imagery. Inside, custom burl and red elm millwork lends warmth and tactility, creating moments of contrast against the crisp architectural lines. And then there is the light: at dusk, the house becomes a living sundial, its surfaces glowing in shifting hues of amber, ochre and rose, infusing the home with an almost meditative rhythm.
More than a renovation, this project is a meditation on architecture as a dialogue between time and place. Rooted in the romance of Spanish Revival heritage yet reinterpreted with a contemporary hand, Natasha and Tull’s home stands as a testament to how memory, materiality and light can converge to create not just a dwelling, but a poetic experience of living.
