the kitchen as the heart of the home

In a grand early 20th-century building, with ornate ceilings and generous windows, a kitchen has been reborn as a stage for gatherings, flavours and memories.
Once marked by the weight of time, the space has been reimagined into an open, bright and inviting area where tradition and modern living come together. Here, cooking is only part of the ritual: the true essence lies in sharing. Whether it’s family breakfasts during the week or long dinners with friends at the weekend, this open kitchen by Santos becomes the place where life unfolds.

Timeless elegance and an island made for connection

The CUADRO Grey Sand Silk Matt model by Santos was the owners’ choice, drawn to its balance of sophistication and timelessness. Its silk-matt lacquered fronts and natural wood handles evoke classic simplicity, while the herringbone pine flooring and predominant whites amplify natural light. At its centre, a generous island brings together preparation, cooking and storage. Topped with Imperial Quartzite, it incorporates state-of-the-art appliances and smart storage solutions. The extended worktop doubles as a bar, an informal meeting point that embodies the idea of the kitchen as a place for sharing.
Running parallel to the island, a linear composition features black aluminium and smoked glass display cabinets, softly illuminated to highlight both finishes and objects. This indirect, diffused lighting creates a warm, almost theatrical atmosphere, turning the kitchen into an intimate, sophisticated stage as evening falls.
Four tall cabinets house the fridge, ovens and interior drawers, offering maximum storage with custom finishes that maintain harmony even when open. Extending right up to the ceiling, they free up valuable space while ensuring functionality without compromising on aesthetics.

Seamless continuity

From the entrance hall to the dining room, the Santos Living line reinforces a sense of continuity between spaces. Sideboards and supporting units in Rustic Oak converse with one another, while a handcrafted American oak table, Roche Bobois chairs and a Vibia pendant lamp create an ambience of relaxed elegance.
This project is far more than a renovation: it is a contemporary interpretation of a historic space. The architectural memory has been preserved, but comfort, technology and sophistication have been added. The result is a kitchen that is not merely for cooking, but truly the heart of the home, a living space where tradition and modernity exist in perfect harmony.
