Near Lecce, in southern Italy, stands Palazzo San Vito – a contemporary retreta developed by Valari Studio through the renovation of an abandoned historic building in the village of Lequile.
Inspired by the concept of otium – a state of timeless tranquillity – the architects have created a haven that balances physical and mental well-being. With its simple façade and unique view of the restored dome of the palazzo itself, the project respects the original architecture – star-vaulted ceilings and decorated terrazzo floors – and unfolds into four suites, lounges, courtyards, terraces and gardens. Materials such as stone, steel and gravel celebrate the past and invite visitors to enjoy the sensory experience offered here.
The different spaces form a fluid relationship with each other. The outdoor áreas extend the experience of the interior spaces and offer moments of contemplation. The Garden Room is particularly striking: a true oasis set within the building.

Developed from the area formerly occupied by the family chapel, the courtyard features lush vegetation and ground covered with fine gravel.
