Upon entering this home, our first impression is that we have entered a contemporary universe, presided by the sign of singularity. A project that was carried out by Israeli architect Pitsou Kedem in collaboration with Baranowitz & Goldberg that aimed to combine “the antiquity found in historical Jaffa with minimalistic modernist shapes found in the Bauhaus architecture in Tel Aviv’s ‘White City’.
Offering panoramic views of the surrounding Mediterranean Sea, Old Jaffa and the city of Tel Aviv, the idea of blending old and new can be felt through the use of several volumes spread all over the space, “sculptural partitions while maintaining the open space layout” but also through the selection of local materials such as Mediterranean stones, marbles and light wood floors.
Creating the interior environments was a thrilling task, that made the design team reflect about “the shapes, division, and proportion to compliment the juxtaposition of old and new with a true sense of home”, explains Sigal Baranowitz and Irene Goldberg. The idea of serenity can be sensed throughout all the divisions, from the living, dining and kitchen areas to the large master suite and five guest bedrooms, but also in the wine lounge, gym or office rooms.
Outdoors, our attention is drawn to the agreeable roof garden, a complement to the downstairs’ interiors. Here we also uncover an outdoor kitchen, a dining area, and an outdoor cinema, marked by the green lush vegetation and the breathtaking views that transform a simple garden into a private oasis in the middle of the city.
