• Malababa Store

Located in Madrid’s Serrano 8, Malababa store offers proof that the Spanish capital is still capable of surprising us. Raw and irreverence, associated with colour and simplicity, are the words that not only describe the interior design, but also the concept of Malababa. Ciszak Dalmas studio’s idea, in collaboration with Matteo Ferrari, was to reproduce the firm’s identity, that enhances “passion, consistency, honesty and sustainability”.

The practice wanted to reach a balance between art, craftsmanship and architecture, by exploring its roughness and rustic character, which manages to be contemporary at the same time. “Walls, floors and decorative elements have been manufactured manually with local natural materials, and some of them have gone beyond being a Malababa design to become window pieces, counters and display shelves”, added the studio.

An example are the imperfect finishes and natural hues of the store’s aesthetic, with walls made with a “mix of Galician clay, white marble powder from Almería and totally natural, ecological and non-toxic food thickeners”. Also of interest are the manufactured furniture - using limestone, aged brass and moss agate -, the lattice structure, the ecocement coating and the agate crystals, usually used on the bags, that are also embedded into one of the walls unit.
