"The project began with the fact that I tried to squeeze the maximum out of, in my opinion, an extremely unsuccessful layout, keeping splendor on one hand, and privacy on the other. Therefore, I completely redid the layout. In addition to having a large wardrobe, the customer did not express any other wishes."
"I have kept the central front axis, while enlarging the hallway into a large square shape that can fit a comfortable wardrobe. I broadened it at the expense of the nursery, which was very large. In front of the entrance there was a door to the laundry room, which I moved to the adjacent room. The laundry room was transformed into a bathroom that can be entered from the bedroom through a large glass with an isolated toilet and a shower compartment.

Recently, the term japandi style has gained a worldwide recognition. In my opinion, it reflects the aesthetics that I have always strived for and in which I work in.

The floor in all rooms, except for the hallway and the bathroom, is laid with the ash tree. The walls are painted everywhere. I always try to do everything visually very simply, without focusing on the floors and walls, creating an interior through accents and combinations, subordination of the main and secondary, creating space through color, light and the arrangement of objects in space. I also do not use texture solutions for the walls, leaving them neutral for hanging paintings.

The choice of colors in the interiors is due to the interpretation of the visual images that have arisen during my communication with the customer.

In this project, I used various architectural techniques. For example, one of the Japanese principles called yugen which means “an understatement”. Many interior items appeared only when the customers moved in and lived in the apartment for several months.

I chose and arranged furniture according to the principle of Datsuzoku meaning “uncommon”. There should be no repetition of a certain pattern, but then again, for example, the graphic design of the rack is implicitly repeated in the design of the carpet. There are no vintage items in the interior, but there is a collectible design - this is the sideboard of our Yaratam Design brand, released in a single copy. For a long time I could not decide what to do with the focal point, opposite the front door, where there used to be a doorway in the laundry room. As a result, a Davida Begbie sculpture took this place, which the customers brought from Paris.

I do not lay out the interior into separate elements, on the contrary, I try to make the interior that would be perceived as a whole, as a single organism. But in this project, perhaps most of all I like the bathroom with the Thomas Eyck Collection beetles I brought from the Maison & Objet 2018 exhibition." - Petr Safiullin about the project
