Blending its historical and cultural heritage with the modernity of New Orleans, we discover The Eliza Jane, a charming hotel recently conceived by the New-York based studio Stonehill Taylor. Occupying seven former warehouses and inspired by the beauty of its past, the architectural rehabilitation wanted to restore its industrial soul, through the constant reference of its original properties - The Daily Picayune newspaper, as well as Gulf Baking Soda company, Peters Cartridge shop, and Peychaud Bitters factory.
The encounter between past and present occurs all over the social areas of the hotel, by mixing eclectic personalised and vintage elements. Among the highlights are the original exposed brick and plaster walls, antique oriental rugs and an eclectic collection of decorative lamps with brass accents, in contrast with the lush vegetation across the space. The Press Room shows exactly that - antiques, books, typewriters, and other accessories fill the numerous shelves in an intimistic environment defined by materials such as velvet, leather and marble.
The building accommodates now 196 rooms in vivid tones and floral patterns, with generous areas, high ceilings and brick walls, enhancing the hotel’s tradition and evoking a loft ambience. In the restaurant Couvant, local specialities with a touch of the French cuisine are brought to the table.
