The philosophy of I Rocha is to welcome guests as if they were at home, which it does with an infectious authenticity.
Ahmed Ayour was born in the village of Tisselday, in the High Atlas. He was raised in what was known as the “big house”, an isolated house in the valley, which belonged to his grandparents. He later moved with his parents and five siblings to Ouarzazate where they could continue their schooling. This was later followed by studying Geology in Essaouira, where he met Catherine.

Both wanted to develop a project of their own and they decided to do it back in their home region, where they had their own piece of land in the mountains.

They began with four bedrooms, a patio, a living room and a kitchen, on a plot of land that was difficult to reach and where there was only rock and sand. During construction, they only used materials sourced from the local mountains, such as stone, clay, wood, water and pigments, the only exception being tadelakt, which they ordered from Marrakech. This is a traditional home with a Berber soul and meticulous appearance. Its many windows offer views over the mountains.
