A small but exquisite flat in London, where every corner is optimised with space-saving solutions.
Located right in the heart of the British capital, the cosy pied-à-terre has a charming Victorian fireplace, contemporary furniture, sublime works of art and customised pieces by famous interior designer Olga Ashby and a unique roof terrace.
The main building, in white stucco, dates from the late 19th century. The tiny 68 square metre flat houses an open-plan kitchen-living, two bedrooms and a terrace. "It's a magical place, a sanctuary of peace and calm in the middle of one of London's most exclusive areas," says the owner. Camila Clarke, the owner, was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and grew up in London and Washington, DC. She now lives and works in Silicon Valley, California, and uses this flat in the British capital as her pied-à-terre. "I've always been a citizen of the world, which is why the energy of London - and its sophisticated and international nature - has always appealed to me."
Natural light fills the flat at different times of the day; the marble and wood floors make it even more charming, and the Victorian fireplace exudes old-world glamour that leaves no one indifferent.
Olga Ashby, the project's interior designer, followed the owner's instructions to achieve "a timeless yet modern look, an open and cosy space that was very livable and could welcome guests". "We mixed a bit of iconic Italian design with Scandinavian decor and traditional British features," she says.
The walls and ceilings adopted a unified colour scheme, enveloping the space in a comforting embrace. The flooring and custom-made furniture artfully blend travertine marble and bleached oak, while the walls exude luxury through silk and suede textures. For the upholstery, the interior designer opted for a combination of velvets, linens, and bouclé. The careful selection of fabrics makes the house cosy, elegant, and visually interesting.
