DC.AD has delivered one more restaurant in the Portuguese capital, a restoration project located in the Lx Factory, filling the interiors of the commercial area with life. We’re talking about Cucurico, one of the most recent works by the Lisbon-based studio, fulfilling the brief to transform it into a modern and urban churrasqueira (Portuguese chicken grill-house), restoring the industrial soul of this place.

The project’s main goal was the creation of an informal and welcoming ambience, able to reinterpret the traditional churrasqueira concept. Decoration and furniture evoke this “imaginary of Portuguese culture”, as the architects describe, aiming to mix it with a contemporary and strong character. “The departure point for the project was establishing a unique volume able to, through its centralised location, respect the structure of the space and physically coupled to one of the existing walls.”

The choice for vivid tones and materials such as concrete, iron and wood reflects the personality of this place. The metallic sheeting contrasts with the concrete walls, over which a green wainscot was superimposed to unify the space. Two flower boxes and neon lights were added to highlight the photogenic nature of the restaurant.

The dining spaces answer different client’s needs, whether through wooden tables and benches, “in order to stimulate socialisation and sharing”; tall tables “enabling the relationship with the exterior”; two-person tables “were installed so as to raise the level of flexibility”, or through the terrace design “that strives to ensure the continuity of the inner space”. The result is a stark and bold space, defined by a joyful and pleasant decoration.
