Cartategui combined museum-quality pieces by established artists with emerging artists, including many female artists. The result is the perfect balance between art and design.

The interior design of the apartment – which offers 360-degree views of the New York City skyline – was handled by Workshop/APD, and art curator Bárbara Cartategui worked closely with the designers to “create a very special synergy between every element - lighting, furniture, wall finishing, etc.”. The result is breathtaking, with the entire artistic collection extremely balanced and in perfect dialogue with the surroundings – “the art is completely integrated with the space and the environment, and that is something very challenging to achieve.”, said Bárbara Cartategui.

Interior designers brought soft curves, luxurious plaster finishes and a bright, harmonious material palette to the apartment, blending neutral tones with a range of deeper, warmer colours and dramatic tone-on-tone décor.

In turn, Bárbara Cartategui created and curated a cohesive and balanced art collection, working “carefully to find each work, presenting different options and taking clients to art fairs, galleries and artist studios to see different options.”, recalls.
About the final result and the atmosphere in the house, Cartategui says, “I believe that art is energy, and we feed on the energy that surrounds us. I wanted to create a space that was sacred, harmonious and full of beauty. The art selection helps to isolate you from the real world and transport you into a meditative state of mind. Give us inner peace.”

“My role was to art advise the homeowners, create, and curate a cohesive and balanced art collection, while continuously educating them on a wide variety of different artists and mediums,” she says. “I worked on carefully finding each artwork, presenting diverse options, and taking the clients to art fairs, galleries, and artist studios to see diverse options. During the process, I also presented art market analysis and reports to guide the collectors about the pricing and investment on each piece.”
