With his own signature brand and being in charge of the 5 Janelas interior design studio, Francisco bought an apartment almost ten years ago in Guimarães and then recently decided to transform it into his personal project. Turning it from a three-bedroom apartment into an apartment with two enlarged bedrooms, he aimed to create a fun space that would showcase the art pieces he painstakingly collects.
Planned in fine detail, as a result of both his discerning taste and professionalism as a designer, the idea was to convert the normal social rooms into areas for family and friends to socialise, while also conveying the sensation that one is wandering through an exhibition. The focus for the living and dining room was “a library full of contemporary objects and paintings.” From painting and sculpture pieces, to limited editions of books — high-lighting his comprehensive Taschen collection — you can breathe art here. Everything stands out in these 190 m2, not only due to its boldness, but also its details. The lighting was also planned as a crucial ingredient in this project, highlighting, for example, the television unit in the living room, where the works of art are picked out by the precision lighting, in a tailor-made piece that was carefully accompanied by him from its conception to execution.
From the very moment we enter the home and move through the open and fluid circuit between the rooms, the positioning of the objects reveals his exceptional taste and even a generous dose of playfulness. The living room veranda was designed as an extension of the indoor space itself, transformed into a winter garden, full of colour, plants and sheer comfort.
