It is in Graça neighborhood, in Lisbon, that we find this bright home with a more contemporary and intimist character. Projected by Lola Cwikowski Studio for a filmmaker, the Belgian interior designer explained to us how her client wished for a flexible home “that allows different modes of work but is also relaxing for when he’s not working”. Inspiration from the client’s surrealist work was another reference to bear in mind.

The answer would end up taking shape through the creation of a “polyvalent space”, Lola tells us, defined by the use of wood, vegetation, and filled by the brightness of natural daylight. The recently-renovated attic apartment includes a bathroom, a single bedroom and an agreeable open-space, with kitchen and living room, bringing together soft furniture and Portuguese products.

In terms of the materials, the designer mentioned the preference for wood, “both from vintage pieces and the custom breakfast table, which I tried my best to match with the tone of the knots in the pine floor”. A personal touch is given through the creation of customized pieces - such as the breakfast bar, the low platform shelf or the suspended clothes hanging system with canvas straps - and some details are blatantly irreverent: the two pendant lights from the Muuto Ambit Rail lamp in the dining area and Pholc Mobil 70 in the bedroom. When asked what the main challenge was, she enthusiastically replies: “the high ceilings are nice, but we installed the pendant lights ourselves — and the height is a whole different story when you’re working at the top of a ladder!”.
