Originally designed in 1925 by architect Yosef Berlin, the two-floor house was remodelled with a project by Pitsou Kedem Architects. The 200 sq.-m space is located at the White City area in Tel-Aviv, declared by UNESCO as World Heritage site. In this protected area several restrictions apply for remodeling of the buildings. Therefore, the architects left didn’t make any changes on the building's façade, leaving most of the intervention for the interior.
A new basement floor was added through a complex engineering exercise, expanding the usable area of the house. Construction elements such as steel beams and a concrete finishing were left visible, a way to “tell the story of the remodeling project”.
