The villa built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is located in Rezeda Street, one of the most unique places of Budapest. The reconstruction of its interior has been designed by our company. The two-storey building of 195 m2 has been planned to satisfy the needs of a family of 4 members. The house has excellent characteristics: a 180-degree view of Pest and a terrace garden full of beautiful ancient trees on the slope of Gellért Hill.

The interior of the building is high. From the side of the balcony and the urban panorama, the large civic rooms are flooded with a lot of light. The spaces of the original floor plan were large, but we aimed to create a streaming open-plan living space. The different functions of the family’s space of living (the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the hall) are all in one area, while on the ground floor, the bathroom and the bedroom constitute the common living space of the parents.

The frame wall covered with painted panelling and decorated with built-in furniture was intended to be a space organising element that creates interesting spatial transparencies. In the open-plan space upstairs, only the children’s room and the service rooms are separated by wall elements. The parts of the wall are decorated with classic panelling typical of the contemporary interior design of the house. In our opinion the interior of the 100-year-old villa should reflect the external character of the building, but should not suppress the clear-out modern taste of the owners.

The concept (the owners’ photo collection) played an important role, especially in designing the lighting. Most of the available wall surfaces are turned alive and colourful by the expanding collection of contemporary artworks. Due to the low-key colours of the interior design, the contrast between the furniture and the space becomes dominant. When selecting the furniture, we preferred eclectic, colourful contemporary design similar to the clear-cut forms of the 1960s. In addition to great classics, there are also pieces representing some lesser-known brands.
