Will Ellis started photographing the ruins of New York City in 2012, documenting his discoveries in the blog abandonednyc.com. Ellis went through the whole city and outskirts, where he found a decomposing past – “relics of a once-mighty industrial waterfront, crumbling institutions for the poor and mentally ill, decommissioned military defenses, derelict railroads, schools, and cemeteries”.
This year, he launched the book Abandoned NYC with 150 images of a selection of 16 spaces, accompanied by essays and details about those places.
