Kim Gordon’s latest home offers an entirely new approach to Southern California residential design, one where water features practically lap up to rooms; where gardens and interiors expand and contract for a whimsical exploration of public and private moments; and where enchanted features include an indoor, hydroponic herb forest.

With her largest lot to date, Gordon creates a voluminous living experience where soaring 12-foot ceillings, multi-level living and expansive indoor and outdoor areas make for a creative playground atmosphere that soothes and stimulates the senses.

The 4,600-square-foot, 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home is located on one of Venice’s most private streets, where generously proportioned lots offer a sense of seclusion from city bustle. Gordon extends the feeling of an urban oasis with outdoor areas that include a resort-style pool with Baja shelf, entertaining pavilion and deck, as well as an additional rooftop deck area with 360-degree views. A detached, two-story flex space with dedicated outdoor areas can be used as a yoga retreat or artist studio. Parquet oak floors, hand troweled plaster walls, handmade ironwork and custom closets and cabinetry are found throughout.

The interior design represents another evolution of Gordon’s work. Here, she has created a vibrantly layered environment inspired by 60s and 70s Southern California and Italian design juxtaposed with a host of contemporary organic elements. Gordon combines an array of tactile materials, saturated tones and statement-making works by select artists.
