"A’tolan" is the indigenous Taiwan word for "rocky place” or "house made of rocks". And it is also the name given to this property, on Tai- wan's East Coast, along the Pacific Ocean.

The geological features of the site and the architectural indigenous culture were the main sources of inspiration for this house. Its longitu- dinal shape – in a 130 degree angle – was defined by the line of the coast and for the three-level building, the rocks occupied a leading role. At the top of the building we find the staircase, in the intermediate level the functional areas and, on the lower level, the swimming pool.
